August 4-10

Every once and awhile, when I feel like being the "fun mom" I let the kids pick one of those "gourmet" lollipops from Wal-Mart.  This is the result.
~
In preparation for our trip I assigned Marissa the job of making ginger snaps.  It seemed to start so well as I observed her lining up all the ingredients.  First there was a misreading of a tbsp instead of tsp where salt was concerned.  And then we're not quite sure what went awry--it was a much used and loved recipe but the end result all ran together like on big bar cookie that had to be scraped off the sheet.  It might be awhile before she lives this one down. ;o)

 And we're off--the great road trip of 2013 begins . . .
~
Nope, that is not snow but salt!  Here we are at a rest area in western Utah exploring the salt flats!
~
And here are four of the five kids scaling a fallen redwood in Humboldt Forest in California.
~
The kids meet the Pacific Ocean.

Uh oh.  Tow trucks we must stop meeting this way . . .
~
Obviously I have SO MANY pictures to share and oh the stories!! My blog over the next week or so will be devoted to covering our vacation in detail.  In the meantime though, vacation is having some "technical difficulties" and we are in Elko, NV (not exactly a planned stop . . .).  I would greatly appreciate prayer as we figure out a way for us to get home.  How's that for a cliffhanger?? ;o)

Oh, friend!!! Sounds like you could use a double batch of gingersnaps right about now!!! *will be praying* and stalking your blog--perhaps hourly-for an update. Hang in there! What is it about your vacation and tow trucks??? At least you weren't dangling off the side of the mountain this time around. :)

Oh, goodness...that minivan on the tow truck is a little too familiar, isn't it? Praying for a smooth ride for you guys...but LOVE that blue face and the van full of kids & gear. You guys hit some great spots! Looking forward to the detailed version. ;)
